Personal Net Zero

an MBA project to help people decarbonize from the ground up in Northern Colorado

Electrify Everything

Once you’re using renewables, the key is to make sure all energy use in your house is from this clean energy. Natural gas not only causes CO2 emissions, the methane leaks that happen at the well and processing plants and along the pipelines are even worse- once released into the atmosphere, methane itself is 84 times as bad as CO2. Many houses have leaks as well.

Quick Wins

  1. Consider not using your gas fireplace. If your fireplace is just for ambiance, skip the emissions entirely and turn it off.
  2. Buy an electric lawn mower and trimmer. There are cordless versions, and this may save you a few trips to the gas station as well.

Big Impacts

  1. Replace your gas stove.
  2. Replace your gas water heater.
  3. Replace your gas furnace with a heat pump.
